Custom Electric Guitar FAQs
Professional-grade answers for serious players across Ventura County,
Santa Barbara County, Los Angeles County, and beyond.
What types of custom electric guitars does GLS build?
We build three primary tiers:
- Modern Series: Fast neck profiles, precision fretwork, high-stability hardware, studio-quiet electronics.
- Vintage Series: Period-correct feel, classic scale lengths, traditional wiring, and authentic tonal response.
- Artist / Signature Series: Elite-level instruments built around a player’s exact performance demands.
Every instrument is engineered as a complete system—neck geometry, fretwork, hardware alignment, electronics,
and finish designed to work together.
How do you ensure professional-level playability?
Each build includes precision fret leveling, crowning, and polishing. Nut and saddle work is tailored to your
string gauge, attack style, and tuning preference. Action targets are established before final setup.
Our goal is not just low action—it’s stable, consistent, and reliable performance under real playing conditions.
Can you build a guitar that stays quiet under high gain?
Yes. Studio-quiet wiring is a priority in Modern and Artist Series builds.
We implement proper shielding, clean grounding architecture, optimized harness layout,
and switching logic that minimizes unwanted noise.
Whether you’re running vintage breakup or high-gain amplification,
your instrument should remain controlled and articulate.
Do you build multiscale or extended-range electric guitars?
Yes. Multiscale (fanned fret) configurations are available for players seeking improved string tension balance,
extended low-end clarity, and ergonomic performance across the fretboard.
Extended-range builds (7-string, baritone scale, alternate tunings) are available by consultation.
What woods and materials do you offer?
Body and neck woods are selected for stability, resonance, and tonal direction.
Options may include alder, swamp ash, mahogany, walnut, maple, and figured tops.
We evaluate material stability before use—especially important in Southern California’s climate.
What is the typical investment range for a GLS custom electric?
Investment depends on series tier, materials, electronics complexity, and finish work.
- Modern / Vintage Series: Typically mid-tier custom pricing
- Artist / Signature Series: Premium-tier builds reflecting elite-level detail
During consultation, we provide a clear estimate range before construction begins.
How long does a custom build take?
Timelines vary depending on complexity, finish system, and current build queue.
Most instruments are completed within several weeks to a few months.
Signature and Artist-level commissions may require additional refinement time.
Do you document the build process?
Yes. Upon request, we provide build documentation including progress photos and notes.
Artist and Signature builds may include enhanced documentation packages.
Where are you located, and who do you serve?
GLS is based in Camarillo, California (Ventura County).
We regularly serve clients across Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County,
and we consult with players beyond Southern California as well.
